To celebrate its 21st birthday, Magnet Magazine is throwing a party at The Trocadero tonight with Guided By Voices, Surfer Blood and Titus Andronicus. The Philly-based indie music publication has been a mainstay in the music news and interview world since 1993. Also a mainstay in their world of post punk / indie rock, Guided By Voices have been active again in recent years thanks to a few reunion albums, including Cool Planet, which was just released last week. Take a listen to “Ticket To Hide” below, read Kate Bracaglia’s overview of 21 GBV essentials here and pick up tickets to the 21+ show here.
The Ghost in You will play a set at Lansdowne record store Vinyl Revival tonight. Billy Polard has been recording music under that moniker for several years, releasing two full-lengths and a handful singles. His cover of John Lennon’s “Oh Yoko” was just included on a Wes Anderson tribute album called I Saved Latin! and Kettle Pot Tracks will be sharing Polard’s live On the Hill Session soon. More information for the show tonight can be found here. Listen to “Oh Yoko” below.
Ryan Tennis headlines an all-local show at Boot & Saddle tonight. The Philadelphia musician just returned from a jam-packed month touring through Europe, and is now ready to celebrate the release of his new album Silver Sun. Tonight’s release show will feature Tennis and his “big band” of friends, a glimpse of which we got during his Key Studio Session last year.
