Philly band Weird Hot describes itself as “funk noir” — two words that hold a ton of weight and bring along multiple elements. Well, the band’s newest song, “I Was At A Party,” fits the genre having both the rhythmic groove of funk and the dark, cynical aspects of 80s pop and new wave. Weird Hot mixes together these styles seamlessly in this moody track. Its other new song, however, isn’t so gloomy. “The Wasp Woman” is a more upbeat track with a synth-pop sound (though it still has some darkness to its lyrics). The track is about how you can never escape a character called the Wasp Woman, and like the Wasp Woman you won’t be able to escape this super catchy song. Check both songs out for yourself below and see Weird Hot perform at Johnny Brenda’s on May 30th. Ticket and other information can be found on the XPN Concert Calender.
