Folk-punk band Andrew Jackson Jihad will be playing at Union Transfer tonight. The Arizona based band released its fifth studio album Christmas Island last month. In an interview with Brooklyn Vegan, the band stated that they wanted to make a “brutal acoustic record, similar to the Violent Femmes’ first album.” Recently, the band did a session with their label SideOneDummy, which includes the premiere of their latest, “Do, Re and Me.” Listen to it below. Get more information here at the XPN Concert Calender.
Local Brazilian dance ensemble PhillyBloco will be playing at Ardmore Music Hall tonight. Though the ensemble calls itself a cover band, they are known for adding their own unique spin on familiar (and unfamiliar) classics. A single show can spin from Brazilian samba to reggae, funk and rock. Earlier this week, the band did an amazing Key Studio Session. Listen to “Hey Na Na” below. Get more information for the show here.
Philly twangcore band Betty Iron Thumbs will be playing at Milkboy tonight for their album release show. Their music has an unique blend of punk, folk and country. The band just released their second album Teeth today. Listen to “Crazy” below. Get more information on the show here.
