Husband and wife indie-folk/roots rock duo Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent – Shovels & Rope – are playing Union Transfer on Wednesday, September 24th with opening act, singer-songwriter John Fulbright. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 20th at Noon. The band is releasing a new album, Swimmin’ Time, on August 26th.

Inspired by Woody Guthrie, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, the Cramps, and the soulful harmonies of Johnny Cash and June Carter, the Charleston, SC duo debuted with O’ Be Joyful in 2012 that channeled country, bluegrass, and blues through a raw, confident, punk rock filter.

Below, watch Shovel & Rope’s live version of a new song, “The Devil Is All Around,” that they performed at WXPN’s Non-COMMvention this past May.
