If that image of Ryan Adams in Rock God stance doesn’t give you an indication, the closing trifecta of XPoNential Music Festival day two was high-energy and memorable. A sizable crowd filled out the theater and lawn of the Susquehanna Bank Center to watch as Adams was joined by Jenny Lewis and Dawes to jam out into the breezy Saturday night.

In something of a make-up for their rainout in 2013, Dawes kicked off the show with a short and sweet half-hour set, culminating in a rousing rendition of their signature hit “When My Time Comes.” Lewis followed, working across material from her new solo LP Voyager – opening single “Just One Of the Guys” was a winner, as was “Slippery Slopes” and “Head Underwater” – but also dipping back to her time in Rilo Kiley for winning performances of “Silver Lining” and “The Moneymaker” from 2007’s Under The Blacklight.

Adams joined Lewis for some guitar shreddery on The high point, though, was a breathtaking, round-the-mic performance of “Acid Tongue” featuring backup vocals from Dawes.

Adams was charismatic and comical, calling out to the festival “party people” filling the lawn, delivering riffed-up, extended renditions of “Oh My Sweet Carolina” and “Let It Ride” and debuting a healthy selection of new material from his self-titled record, due out on September 8th on his own Pax Am label. “You can listen now and you might think hey, that’s cool,” Adams says. “But then when the record’s out and you like it, you can tell people I saw that song the first time he played it!”

“Stay With Me” and “Shadows” sounded great, as did the opening single “Gimmie Something Good.” Check out a gallery of photos from the concert and watch some fan videos below.
