As the Wiggins Park performances wound down on Sunday afternoon, there was one final burst of energy – in the form of rip-roaring roots rock and roll – from the River Stage as Trigger Hippy played in the early evening breeze. Comprised of singer-songwriter Joan Osborne, Black Crowes members Steve Gorman and Jackie Greene (on drums and guitar respectively), session guitarist Tom Bukovac and bassist Nick Govrick. The band released its debut EP in the fall, and has plans to release it’s self-titled full-length debut on September 30th – which provided plenty of fuel for the setlist.

Soulful rocker “Rise Up Singing” made an appearance towards the latter half of the set – last week’s Gotta Hear Song from XPN – while the musician’s charisma and camaraderie was evident on the shuffling boogie of “Snatchin’ It Back.” The band returns to Philly this Friday the 1st of August for an appearance at the XPN Free at Noon concert series. RSVP for tickets here, and listen to their XPN Fest set here (via the WXPN media player).
