Brooklyn lo-fi pop band Beverly will headline Boot and Saddle tonight. The group originally started as a project between Drew Citron and Frankie Rose (of Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls). Since then, Citron has added band members Jamie Ingalls (from Chairlift) on drums and Scott Rosenthal on bass. The band just released their debut album Careers in July. They also released a video for  ”Out on a Ride” off of Careers., shot with a VHS camcorder to give it a vintage, DIY feel. Watch it below. Beverly will be playing with local indie band Roof Doctor and fuzz pop duo Tender Vision. Get more info about the show at the XPN Concert Calendar.

Local punk group Thin Lips plays Kung Fu Necktie tonight. Forming last year, the trio features Chrissy Tashjian and Kyle Pulley from Dangerous Ponies and Pat Brier from Tigers Jaw. Late last year, the band released two high energy songs on the Gemini Moon EP. Listen to the title track from the EP below. Thin Lips will be joined by New Orleans math band Tare and local singer songwriter Abi Reimold. Get more info about the show here.

Danish singer songwriter Agnes Obel returns to World Cafe Live tonight. Last year, Agnes released Avenine, a follow up to her debut album Phillharmonics. In a recent interview with DC’s 9:30 Club, Obel talked about how she relates sound and lyric, stating that “Of course I think about the lyrics – use a lot of time on the lyrics – but I feel like the sound, and the sound in a room, and the words, they color each other – the sound and the semantics.” The relationship is especially visible in Obel’s own work, where the stunning lyrics are accompanied by equally gorgeous melodies. Watch the beautiful and spooky video for the title track from Aventine below.
