Philly singer-songwriter Kate Faust has modernized the timeless classic “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” written by Ewan MacColl and later made famous by folk singer Roberta Flack. Originally written for MacColl’s wife Peggy Seegar, Faust wrote on her Soundcloud that her interpretation combines the narrative of the song with her favorite love story from the film, The Secretary.

“Both of these stories speak to me of erotic power,” Faust said. “The energy that gives birth to freedom, joy, and empowerment. The true elixir of love.”

With an electronic pop twist to it, Faust’s version still conveys the song’s emotional baggage if not more with Faust’s beautifully-haunting vocals. Listen to the flawless track below and download it for free here.

Roberta Flack a folk singer? Maybe, but much more notable as a soul, R&B and Jazz singer. And emotional BAGGAGE? WOW. Song is nice, but the the blurb is poorly written.
