Miniature Tigers stopped by Union Transfer on Friday night and put on a show for their record books, their self-reported best show ever in Philly. I had seen Miniature Tigers two years ago when they opened for fun. on their Some Nights tour, but since then had forgotten how much fun their live show is, and how enthusiastic and grateful they are for all the reception they get. Charlie Brand’s antics and impeccable charm kept the audience entranced throughout the night, and bassist Brandon Lee’s dancing and playing may be the best stage performance I’ve ever seen from a bass player (depicted multiple times below). Touring in support of Cruel Runnings, their June 2014 release, they played many infectious dance-pop songs, including “Cleopatra,” “Swimming Pool Blues” and “Used To Be The Shit.” Charlie Brand took ample time throughout the performance to make sure the audience was well cared for, hopping into the crowd and hugging anyone who ask, and inviting the lucky 25 or so people up front onto the stage to dance for encore song “Sex On The Regular.”

Joining Miniature Tigers on Friday was Bay Area Indie outfit Finish Ticket, who played many cuts off their debut LP Tears You Apart. Finish Ticket amazed with their excellent musicianship, harmonies provided by Alex DiDonato and Brandon Hoyes, and impeccable stage presence throughout the set. Second on the bill was Australian act The Griswolds, whose instrumental setup echoed that of a happier, dancier The 1975, Satellite Stories, or San Cisco and vocalist Chris Whitehall’s vocal timbre echoed that of Jesse Rutherford, especially live.  Check out photos below!
