Ryan Adams is shaping up to have an outstanding fall. After a handful of well-received summer festival appearances – including a slot at our own XPoNential Music Festival – his fourteenth album, the self-titled Ryan Adams, is in stores next week. And holy cow it is good – an incredibly skilled songwriter in top form. The album is streaming in full via NPR Music’s First Listen, and Stephen Thompson has this to say about the record:
Adams’ output was erratic for so long — not to mention checkered with unlikely detours, including the occasional ragged punk record — that albums this sure-handed actually take a little getting used to. But Ryan Adams rewards the extra attention: It’s the sound of a genius who’s only recently relearned what it’s like to walk on steady footing.
Adams fall tour brings him to the Tower Theater on November 19th; tickets and information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to the album in its entirety here, and watch the “Gimmie Something Good” video below.
