Son Little | photo via facebook.com/SonLittleMusicAaron Livingston has been known for collaborating with The Roots and RJD2 over the last several years, appearing on the former’s “Guns Are Drawn” and the latter’s The Abandoned Lullaby.  Now, enter Livingston as solo artist Son Little – the Philly native has shared two singles this year and is back with not one, but three, versions of “River.”

The original cut of “River” is a dark, southern gothic R&B composition that details a fast-rising infatuation and its accompanying video has the appropriately-shadowy, ominous imagery of  woman dancing in a vacated bar while Livingston sings from behind his dimly lit table.  According to Complex, who premiered the three videos, the clips were inspired by the 1993 suspense thriller The Pelican Brief.  Version two, the “Styx” edit, throws some heaviness into the mix, trading in the jittery syncopation for straight blues-rock grit.  The “Amazon” edit turns the track on its head, slowing it down and adding a distant piano, super-wet drum hits and dance-ready synth swells.

Check out the videos below, try to pick a favorite and catch Son Little live when he performs at Dilworth Park at City Hall on October 25th for the Illvibe Collective showcase.
