Strand of Oaks frontman Tim Showalter just released a powerful cover of The National’s “Pink Rabbits,” a song from the Brooklyn epic rock band’s 2013 album Trouble Will Find Me. The Oaks version is immediately original from the get-go, drawn out in layered synths and 80’s-style backbeats and centered around Showalter’s raw vocals. Noted by Stereogum for its powerful nature, Showalter alludes to the song’s personal relevance in his life.

The most important song for me in recent memory. A lot of music is great but not important. Listening to “Pink Rabbits” became mandatory for me…This song saved me and destroyed me simultaneously.

Strand of Oaks’s tour brings it around Pennsylvania the next week for a string of shows. On Wednesday, 9/18, the group will convene in central PA at the Kable House. Thursday, 9/19, they will perform in Wilmington at Arden Gild Hall. Then they’re home in Philadelphia for two performances, 9/20 & 9/21, at Boot and Saddle (two shows that have been long sold out).

Can’t make any of this week’s shows? Fear not! Strand Of Oaks will be returning to Philly in early December for a headlining show at Union Transfer, their biggest hometown show to date.
