Up and coming alternative R&B artist BANKS returned to Philadelphia on Saturday night at Union Transfer as part of her Goddess Tour. Despite the fact that her debut album, Goddess, was only released earlier this month, BANKS already has an impressive following drawing a sold-out crowd for an emotional set of evocative, heartbroken songs. With a two-piece backing playing a mix of drums, keyboard, guitar, and electronic effects, her minimal yet soulful performance entranced the crowd throughout the night.
Proclaiming her love for Philly and encouraging the crowd to sing along, her interactions kept fans even more engaged. Crowd favorites included “Brain,” “Drowning,” and “Beggin For Thread.” BANKS’ intricate mix of electro-pop and R&B songwriting showcased her powerful vocals exceptionally, especially during “Alibi” and “You Should Know Where I’m Coming From.” Judging by her unique sound and the crowd’s engagement throughout the night, I can see BANKS gaining much critical acclaim in the future.
Sydney-based three-piece R&B group Movement opened and set an appropriate mood for the evening, getting the crowd cheering and singing along. Their self-titled EP is out now.
