The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program is about to embark on a year-long collaborative effort called the Philly DJ Mural Project, bridging visual and audio arts with the help of students at the Scratch DJ Academy and artist Shepard Fairey.

From Mural Arts Program Executive Director Jane Golden:

The long-standing culture surrounding Philadelphia DJs has played an integral role in the development of this city’s culture, inspiring the Mural Arts Program to pay homage to this expressive art-form. We are excited to integrate art and music in this program geared towards youth in our Art Education program.

A free kick-off block party will be held on October 17th on 13th Street between Chestnut and Sansom from 6-8 pm, featuring Philly DJ greats RJD2 and DJ Cash Money along with food trucks, giveaways and more.

More information for the block party can be found here.
