Brooklyn-based guitarist Steve Gunn will be playing PhilaMOCA tonight. Known for dabbling in different genres, Gunn has incorporated various styles into his eclectic sound including psychedelic, Gnawa and classical Indian music. He’s had a steady stream of new releases since his initial appearance on the scene and shows no sign of stopping, with this year alone producing three separate albums: a collboration with guitarist Mike Gangloff, Melodies for a Savage Fix; another with Mike Cooper, Cantos de Lisboa; and just this month, his solo album, Way Out Weather. Be sure not to miss this music maniac tonight! For more information, head to the XPN Concert Calendar. You can check out his NPR Tiny Desk Concert performance below.
Nashville indie rock outfit Kopecky Family Band will take on Union Transfer this evening. After rising out of Tennessee’s music scene in 2010, the group has gained quite a following over the past few years and have been praised by NPR and The New York Times for their light, fresh sound. They released their debut full-length, Kids Raising Kids, back in 2012 and it showed influences ranging from My Morning Jacket and Fleetwood Mac, so it’s easy to get an idea of what is so alluring about the group. You can find more information on tonight’s show here. Watch their fun music video for “Heartbeat” below.
Philadelphia funk / hip-hop jammers The Jawn will perform at Bourbon and Branch tonight. After ringing in 2014 by winning a Disco Biscuits New Year’s Eve after-party performance in New York City through Spotlight.fm, the group has continued to turn heads and perk ears. You can watch their performance live at Caravan below. For more information on tonight’s show, click here.
