The Key’s special feature Unlocked made a return this week with locals Young Statues and their new record The Flatlands are Your Friend.  You can get the full scoop on the Jersey natives’ record with an full interview, review and the premiere of an in-studio documentary here.  Download “Got the Knife” for free here, courtesy of Run For Cover Records.

Leon Bridges is a singer-songwriter from Texas whose soul, R&B and gospel influenced songs caught the ear of White Denim‘s Austin Jenkins.  The two are currently working on Bridges’ debut record, so while we’re waiting for that project to be complete check out the old school-sounding “Coming Home” below.

Philadelphia producer Cory Wilson dropped a new single called “We Eat, We Feed” on his Soundcloud as a free download.  Recording as FortuneWest, the instrumental / electronic artist describes his sound as “experimental hip-hop delving into the realms of old school sampling, funky synths, and catchy leads.”  Get a copy of “We Eat, We Feed” below.

Local emcee Mody Farooq has a style of songwriting that is a powerful tool in the hip hop world.  As Rahman Wortmann explains, “Hip hop at its best knows how to educate and entertain the youth” and that’s exactly what Farooq does on his recent song “The Pillars.”  Listen below and get a free download via Bandcamp.

Indie rockers Minus the Bear have released a five-song sampler through NoiseTrade.  The free download includes songs from 2012’s Infinity Overhead, 2010’s OMNI and a couple of b-sides.  For more Minus the Bear related content, listen back to the Seattle band’s appearance on World Cafe here and watch a video of them performing “My Time” at the 2010 Non-COMMvention here.
