It’s probably an exercise in futility to pin down Philly five-piece You Do You to a single genre. Unless, of course, we can call “PARTY” a genre. Fitting somewhere in the interzone between Parliament, Chic, The B-52s, Lady GaGa and the more upbeat moments of Phish, the Philly five piece can be anything from disco to pop to jammed-out funk. Band leader Katie Feeney’s vocals are powerful and soulful; drummer Aaron Boczkowski rocks a fierce dancefloor rhythm. The other players – Drew Parker on guitar, Crills Wilson on keys, Alex Baranowski on bass – keep the energy high, trading solos, adding texture and harmonizing. And it all comes together with brilliant energy on the new I Got Time EP, available today via Bandcamp.

The record is quirky and catchy, a tremendous shot of energy from the opening “Island Rat” – loosely based on the children’s cartoon Rastamouse – to the glittery title track that closes the show. Tonight, that energy carries over to the band’s Key Studio Session premieres on the WXPN Philly Local Show; tune in to hear their live set at 9 p.m. EST via XPN.org or on your Philadelphia radio dial at 88.5 FM. They’re a massively fun live band, and you’ll hear that on display tonight. You can also see it in person this Friday, November 14th when they headline Bourbon and Branch for their EP release party; tickets and information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
