The Punch Brothers announce new album, playing Union Transfer on March 4th

This past year Nickel Creek returned with a new album and a tour that brought them to the Tower Theatre this past May, as well as a stop at WXPN to play a Free At Noon. The Creek’s mandolinist, Chris Thile, is also a member of The Punch Brothers, who just announced the release a new album and a tour that starts in January. The band is playing in Philly on Wednesday, March 4th at Union Transfer. Tickets go on sale this Friday at Noon.

The band made this announcement on their Facebook page yesterday:

It gives me great joy to finally announce that we will very soon be announcing a new album, to be released early next year. Unfortunately, at this time, none of us can tell you anything more about it. We do have vague memories of writing and recording music with each other over the past two years and more recently recording with a very tall man, quite possibly T-Bone Burnett. Currently, we have nothing more concrete to share other than this BRAND NEW SONG, “I BLEW IT OFF.” We sincerely hope you like the music, and are super impressed by our collective ability to stand super still for this high concept music video.

While the band’s attempts at being comedy writers might not be the best, there’s no doubt they’ve got serious musical chops. Thile, along with his bandmates guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjo player Noam Pikelny, and fiddler Gabe Witcher, have been making music together since 2006, blending folk, jazz, bluegrass, and classical music.
