We’ve known for a little while that The Phillie Phanatic is a Dr. Dog fan. When the band headlined a sold-out show at The Electric Factory back in February, the furry green Galapagos Islander and resident baseball hype man appeared on stage with the boys, dancing along to an encore of “Oh No.” Last night, via the above Tweet, we saw the Phanatic in Dr. Dog’s Clifton Heights studio, strat in hand, jamming out. While I’m not quite sure how the heck he’s successfully fretting any notes with those giant hands, it would be pretty awesome to think that he might be a guest musician credit on the next Dr. Dog LP.

That wasn’t the primary reason for the Phanatic’s visit, though. Drummer Eric Slick tells us via email that the band was filming a promotional video for the Phanatic’s charity, which promotes literacy among students from kindergarten through eighth grade. A pretty awesome undertaking on everybody’s parts, and Slick did mention “other secret stuff” the band and Phanatic collab’d on. So while a lead guitar solo might be sorta implausible, maybe he shakes maracas or plays drums on the next album! Can’t wait to hear it.
