Local singer-songwriter Ben Smith has gotten in the holiday spirit and released Old Man Winter, Vol. 4. It’s part of his long standing Old Man Winter series, and this time around featured two songs: Getting Coal For Christmas,” about a boy who doesn’t seem to mind his growing stockpile of coal, and “Feast of Steven,” about a boy alone at boarding school for the holidays, with nothing but his Smiths records to keep him company. Both songs feature Ben on lead vocals, guitars and and piano, and Matt Magarahan on drums. Smith, himself a massive Smiths fan, sings:

All alone
On the Feast of Steven
Now I know
Nothing breaks even
Watch the snow
Scatter the heathen
I’m all alone
On the Feast of Steven
And Manchester’s far away

I’m no charming man
I do what I can
Got nothing to say
Just let the records play
But the cold still creeps through the window
And the train takes everyone home for a while

Below, download “Feast of Steven.” Get a copy of last year’s Old Man Winter, Vol. 3 here. On December 13th, Ben will be at Melodies Cafe in Ardmore with The Old Man Winter Holiday Revue. In the style of an old variety revue, he’ll be joined by other artists to help ring in the holiday season with songs and jokes and sparkling holiday lights.
