Weird Hot are set to release their new self-titled record at Johnny Brenda’s on December 19th.  The local “funk noir” six-piece has released a new video for their single “I Was At a Party” in anticipation of the LP, which shows a diabolical cast of characters carrying out a mission that surrounds a silver briefcase.

Weird Hot is not a static band – their sound is an always-morphing amalgamation of new wave and freak pop, with moments of Lou Reed, David Bowie and even Pet Shop Boys holding up all of the colorful layers.

The recording spaces and producers they chose for the new effort are just as eclectic and have just as much character as the band itself.  They worked with former Hit Factory head engineer Michael McCoy in NYC before going to Uniform Recordings with Jeff Zeigler here in Philadelphia and finishing up with Pete Rydberg at 1395 in an old mummer clubhouse.  The resulting ten tracks are inventive and intriguing vignettes laced with humor, as you’ll see in the video for “I Was At a Party” below.

Tickets and information for the release show with El Malito & The 33rd Century and I Think Like Midnight can be found here.
