If you’ve ever seen Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog in concert, you know that these gentlemen put on a remarkable live show. From brave re-interpretations of the jazzy-psych tunes of their early years, to reliably emphatic performances of their current hits and deep tracks, to that Architecture in Helsinki cover that has somehow in time surpassed the original in recognizability and popularity, their concerts are not ones to be missed. At last count, I’ve seen them 15 times over the years and I don’t plan to slow down.

So it stands to reason that, sooner or later, the band would want to release a document of their live show, and that happens next month with Live From a Flamingo Hotel, out January 13th on Anti- Records. The tracklist is as eclectic and random as the band’s typical setlist (“County Line” makes the cut right next to “Shadow People”) and the energy is fantastic. To see what I mean, check out the trailer below — it seriously, seriously makes me wish there was a DVD accompanying the release.

Dr. Dog is about to play a massive run of shows in New York city (four nights at Music Hall of Williamsburg, four nights at Bowery Ballroom) with a slew of guests and friends on board, and from there will embark on a winter / spring tour. We hear they just finished their next record, which we imagine will be fan-freaking-tastic.
