PREMIERE: NarK return with new record, listen to “Disheartening” now

Drexel grads NarK will release their latest effort Cry About It this Friday, December 5th at Kung Fu Necktie.  The record was recorded at the band-members’ new Manayunk studio Sleepless Sound and follows up 2012’s “Convince You” single and Old Crow, New Angles EP.  We’ve got an exclusive premiere of Cry About It‘s “Disheartening,” which you can listen to below ahead of the official release on Friday.

Cry About It was a long time coming, as band mates Lucas Kozinski, Ben Mink and Rodrigo Gaulberto made sure it turned out exactly how they wanted.  From Ben:

For this album we  wanted to take our time and put out something we were really proud of. The song “Disheartening,” for example, got changed around a lot before the final version. I had a shit ton of different lyrics that I kept thinking weren’t good enough so they kept getting rewritten. We haven’t really had the time to do that on anything we previously recorded.

“Disheartening” definitely sets the bar high for the rest of Cry About It.  It’s leaps and bounds beyond NarK’s earlier compositions in terms of cohesiveness and lyrical structure, drawing the listener into early 2000s emo with tasteful noodling and raw energy.  Lyrical centerpiece “how could we survive ninety miles but not the same apartment / how disheartening” busts the song’s vulnerable inspiration wide open and will surely resonate with fans at live shows.
