One of the best thing an artist can do is take you on a journey with their music. The combination of gripping melodies and poetic lines can give a listener a feeling that they won’t forget. This is exactly what Marian Hill does with their new single “Lips.” Philadelphia natives Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd do a fantastic job of making “Lips” a song that displays the emotions of someone who is addicted to the kiss of their lover.

The band debuted “Lips” live at the XPoNential Music Festival last summer (listen here), and lines like “Overwhelmed, hazy eyes / Staring at, tinted skies,” paint a picture of love as a powerful narcotic. The beat creates a funky psychedelic feeling that adds to the song’s emotion. At times it feels like Lloyd’s production of “Lips” matches the quirkiness of Gongol’s voice, making a bigger impact on the listener.

Marian Hill brings their talents back to their hometown Thursday night at Boot and Saddle. For more information about the show and to purchase tickets, click here. The new single “Lips” is available now via B3sci Records.
