Charlie Yin, aka Giraffage, has a knack for catchy dance-pop grooves with a heavily surreal overlay. He caught our attention opening for Porter Robinson at The Tower Theater this fall, and his set was a heady blend of projected pixels, slick grooves and bizarre curveballs (like playing Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” at half-speed so it sounds like a Tears for Fears song).

On his new video for “Tell Me,” the mind-warpy confections continue. It’s a bright and poppy video filled with dogs, and people, and dog-people interacting against a backdrop of outer space scenes and glittery disco globes. There’s a scene where the human protagonist is seen under the covers playing footsies with the dog-headed woman; in the next shot, she’s very visibly pregnant. It would be kind of disturbing were it not so adorable.

Giraffage’s EP No Reason is out now on Fools Gold Records, and he plays Johnny Brenda’s on January 30th. Get more information on the show at the XPN Concert Calendar.
