For several years, WXPN has been home to a weekly indie-folk radio show, hosted by Fred Knittel, called Folkadelphia. Like World Cafe and The Key, Folkadelphia records regular recording sessions, mostly in the World Cafe studios at WXPN.

Fred and his colleagues – James Clark Conner and Eric Sanderson – have been excellently chronicling and curating the indie-roots music scene that Knittel calls “folk adjacent.” Over the last several years he has had dozens of sessions with the likes of Angel Olsen, Joshua James, Sara Watkins, DeVothcka, Chelsea Wolfe, Lily & Madeleine, Don Flemons, Leif Vollebekk, and many more.

Last December, Knittel released Folkadelphia Sessions, Volume 1. All the sessions featured on the first collection of in-studio sessions were recorded between November 2012-November 2013, and some of the highlights on the collection include songs by Anais Mitchell, William Tyler, Laura Stevenson, Dana Falconberry, and the previously mentioned Angel Olsen.

Now comes Folkadelphia, Volume II, a free collection of seventeen songs, once again recorded at the WXPN studios. Some of the artists contributing to this new collection include Marissa Nadler, Willy Mason, Amy Ray (of the Indigo Girls), Cuddle Magic, Don Flemons, Mandolin Orange, Tift Merritt, and more.

Below, download the collection and be sure to listen to Folkadelphia on WXPN, Wednesdays at 10PM ET.
