City Rain is closing out 2014 with the premiere of a new video for their song “Hearts.”  The track is taken from this year’s Songs For a High School Dance LP, which also featured break-out song “The Optimist.”  Shot in both LA where director Kofa lives and here in Philadelphia at the Port Richmond coal pier, the clip has City Rain’s signature balance of real life anxiety and overwhelming optimism.

From City Rain’s Ben Runyan:

The video was a blast to create. We flew “Kofa” in from LA for the shoot. We got the idea for the pier from my girlfriend Suzanne who let us know about the hidden gem. It was a strange place that had some sketchy moments and people hanging around each corner.

But once that part of the shoot was over we knew had some great footage. Kofa was a total professional and had the creative vision for the entire video. For the first time we really stepped back and let someone else dictate the creative vision, visually speaking.

As Ben said over email, this video marks the end of the band’s Songs For a High School Dance era as he and guitarist Scott Cumpstone prepare a new record.  The montage in the beginning of the clip pays homage to two other songs on the record, “wrapping up the whole album period so well.”
