Meet Joe Strummer– The snail. Actually, the snail’s name is “A. strummeri” named after the late, iconic front-man of The Clash. Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute senior research technician Shannon Johnson Williams has discovered five new species of snails using DNA sequences. She describes them as “cool as punk rock” and named one: A. strummeri. (after Joe Strummer) The snails live in hydrothermal vents in the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
