Thin Lips made their Key Studio Session debut this week. A spin-off of former Philly outfit Dangerous Ponies, Thin Lips refocuses the latter’s carnivalesque energy into high-octane punk. For this session they recorded two tracks from a 7″ called Gemini Moon. Catch the band playing new material at Johnny Brenda’s on New Year’s Eve with Hop Along and check out the title track to the 7″ below.

Sympathy and the Lion are a guitar / cello duo from Lancaster that filmed a stellar On the Hill Session this year. They caught our attention again with the beautifully hushed “Leaps of Love,” a song taken from their upcoming Remnants EP due out in January. Stream and download the song below and watch the video here.

Ethiopian music star Hailu Mergia recorded a session for World Cafe recently, backed by Brooklyn brass / beat group Low Mentality. Mergia is a keyboard player whose music was included on a compilation cassette called Awesome Tapes From Africa and subsequently released Tche Belew. Listen to the full World Cafe session here and download a live performance of the title track to Tche Belew below.

Local artist Aaron Brown shared a sneak peek of his forthcoming LP The Tin Man with new single “Just Leave.” Brown has said that the album has strong 70s soul influences, and “Just Leave” is definitely vining on Stevie Wonder’s approach to song arranging. Stream and download the song below for a limited time.

ATO Records has released a winter sampler compiling tracks from their best-loved artists of 2014, including J Roddy Walston & The Business, Benjamin Booker, Fly Golden Eagle and Brandi Carlile.  Carlile’s contribution is a new song called “The Eye.” Check out the video for the track here and download the full sampler below.
