Cheerleader headline a night of local music at Johnny Brenda’s. The band just announced that they will be making the journey down to SXSW next March to showcase their new EP On Your Side. Cheerleader has been tightening their hazy dream-pop sound for a couple of years now after founding members and Connecticut natives Joe Haller and Chris Duran pulled together a full band here in Philadelphia. Listen to their recent single “Tomorrow Always Knows” below and pick up tickets to the 21+ show with Dream Safari and Louds here.
It’s also an all-locals night at Union Transfer, with the Kalob Griffin Band leading a show with American Babies and Church Girls. KGB have a developed a strong following (known as the KGBfamily) for their roots-based rock and roll music, which they performed for us during a recent Key Studio Session. While in Sioux Falls, South Dakots KGB played a live version of the rousing and sing-along inducing “Dead Dog” for White Wall Sessions. Check out the video below and pick up tickets to the all-ages show here.
Local soul outfit York Street Hustle presents the 4th annual Holiday Spectacular at World Cafe Live tonight. Formed a few years back by musicians who wanted to perform a tribute to Motown, 70s soul and other old-school stylings, the collective has expanded to a ten-piece band complete with horn section and three vocalists. Check out a video of the group singing “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” from last year’s event and pick up tickets here.
