As we enter the new year, Folkadelphia returns to the airwaves on WXPN. We’ll be getting back to discovering, sharing, and talking about folk music past, present, and future! I cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store for us all. Stay tuned…

For our final episode of 2014, Folkadelphia Radio welcomed guest hosts James Clark Conner and Eric Sanderson, our long time audio engineers and the fellas that record and mix all of those great Folkadelphia Sessions you hear each week. Beyond their role capturing some impeccable music when we’re in the studio, Clark and Eric serve additional and vital roles as sounding boards to my frequently crazy ideas and as tireless seekers of sonic bliss. Clark recommended that I acquaint myself with Jim and Lynna Woolsey, an Indiana-based husband-and-wife duo that, after performing around together for decades, finally last year recorded and released The Road That Brings You Home, a tight collection of originals.

In lesser hands, the music that makes up The Road That Brings You Home would be a pleasant, but ultimately passing experience. However, the Woolseys, seasoned veteran musicians, walk that fine line between nostalgic and present, loading up their brand of songwriting with an arsenal of bluegrass, country, and Americana tricks of the trade. What really keeps me locked in listening is the unbreakable and uncanny chemistry the two have together. Heck, they’re married, that’s true, but it goes deeper than that. Jim and Lynna were meant to play music together; you can clearly hear that as soon as you start listening. I often talk about this intangible and elusive quality of music that turns good to great. It’s hard to find and near impossible to quantify, but when it is present, you know it immediately. We hear it here in the Woolseys.
