Local singer-songwriter Tess Emma debuts her self-titled EP and a new full band at Milkboy tonight. The record chronicles a difficult break-up with four original songs and while the overall tone is dark and heartbreaking, a cover of The Ronette’s “Be My Baby” and the undercurrents of springtime chirps and buzzings leave the listener with a sense of hope and optimism for the future. Tess will be joined on stage with her newly formed band Lou, which features members of Modern Colour to flesh out her compositions. Listen to Tess Emma below and pick up tickets to the record release show with Ginger Coyle, Family Vacation and Ellen Siberian Tiger here.
Weyes Blood headlines Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The project of Natalie Mering, Weyes Blood released its second record The Innocents in late 2014. Named in reference to The Turn of the Screw‘s screen adaptation, the LP is both haunting and expansive, laced with moments plucked from Mering’s recent cross-country travels. Tickets and information can be found here. Watch “Some Winters” from The Innocents below.
The Lawsuits return to the stage at Boot & Saddle tonight. The local indie rockers were so excited for this hometown gig that they’ve put all their music up on Bandcamp for free leading up to tonight (you might still be able to grab a few downloads here). The best way to get ready for the show would be listen back to their genre-bending releases, including last year’s Tumbled EP (below) and their 2013 debut Cool Cool Cool. Pick up tickets here.
