Local feminist arts organization Permanent Wave Philly announced a showcase this week that will bring together local and national punk-rooted artists at PhilaMOCA on January 31st.

A group that unites feminist artists, musicians, and activists to challenge gender inequality in arts, politics, and everywhere else, Permanent Wave Philly hosts shows, benefits, movie screenings, and create zines at venues across the Philadelphia region. The show on the 31st is headline by Brooklyn’s The Shondes, a riot-grrrl influenced four-piece that also incorporates classic rock and Eastern European folk. (Their name is comes from the yiddish word for “disgrace.”) The band has toured with punk rock stars, Against Me!; their 2013 record The Garden was released on Exotic Fever Records.

Also on the bill are Philly punk duo No Other, which includes Maria Tessa Sciarrino on guitar and vocals and Laura Chance on bass. Named after Gene Clark 1974 LP, No Other frontwoman Sciarrino has created a close-knit community for the women in the Philly DIY scene outside of her band; she has also had a hand in organizing events like Ladyfest Philadelphia and hosts a weekly show on WPRB in Princeton.

Also on the show is indie solo artist Hailey Wojcik; she’s based out of Brooklyn and her debue EP is due out in February 2015. Wojcik’s music and Youtube video covers have caught the attention of several media outlets like MTV, Logo, and The Daily What. She recently released a Sharon Van Etten cover of “A Crime” featuring acoustic folk singer, Mal Blum. The only boy band on the bill, Dan Ex Machina, is based out of Collingswood, N.J. With a Weezer-esque college band feel, the four-piece just put out a single this month called “Staring Problem.”

The all-ages show is $7 and starts at 8 p.m.; more information can be found here. Check out some of the artists on the bill below.
