Acoustic benefit shows seem to be a recent big thing in the Philly D.I.Y. scene, as with last week’s show at the Hazel House featuring Girlpool, Sam Cook-Parrot from Radiator Hospital, and Dean Engle from Quarterbacks. This Friday, the Mantua Yacht Club is hosting its own living room acoustic benefit show, with proceeds  going to the McMichael School in West Philly.

Jake Ewald’s do-it-all solo project Slaughter Beach will be headlining the show. When he’s not singing witty lyrics in Philly pop punk group Modern Baseball, Ewald has a side project of similar taste. He put out a three-track EP titled Dawg back in August. (He’s also playing another acoustic show at Creep Records on the Jan. 29.)

Kiley Lotz of indie rockers Petal will perform solo. The Scranton native self-released a five-track EP in September 2013 that features her hitting crazy-high notes over heavy guitar distortion. Mellow acoustic artist Broken Beak and Roya Weidman (who describes her music as “like Fleetwood Mac but more witchy” on Bandcam)p will also be jamming out in the D.I.Y. venue’s living room.

The benefit starts at 6 p.m. and admission is $5; more information can be found on Facebook. The acoustic show ends prior to the Golden Tea House show with Captain We’re Sinking, Choke Up, Sing Bird of Prey, and Address that night. Listen to music from both artists below.
