Watch Cheerleader play “Sunshine of Your Youth” for Paste, see them on tour with The Wombats

With opening lines like “It’s a Hallmark family photo, circa 1995 but you can’t imagine why,” it’s clear that Cheerleader‘s latest single, “Sunshine of Your Youth” is another emotionally-driven, wistfully nostalgic track jangle pop from Philly jangle-pop band. The five-piece power pop group just released this new track last week, and recently recorded a stripped-down version for Paste Magazine.

Frontman Joe Haller’s vocals are comforting in a soft, yet still powerful, manner; the backing choruses and Chris Duran’s compelling, sun-struck chords make this yet another catch from the band. This past October, Paste set up acoustic sessions during CMJ’s Music Marathon in Brooklyn, where they caught Cheerleader as they appeared at CMJ in support of their October EP, On Your Side.

The band also played Firefly Festival’s First Look show at the Trocadero on Sunday with Chiddy Bang. This week, it heads out on a lengthy spring tour including SXSW performances and dates supporting Liverpool-group, The Wombats. Their tour hits Philly on April 23 at Union Transfer.
