Rocky Bo

Rocky Bo, the solo project of guitarist and singer Cameron Kennon of Philly band Cold Foamers, released a four-track demo in late December. This laid-back set feels comfortable and inviting, but is never boring. The slow and spacious acoustic guitar is rounded out by piano, drums, and electronics. Kennon’s low, rolling voice and mellow guitar are reminiscent of older folk artists, but his tracks have a contemporary twist provided by sound effects, layered vocals, and electric guitar lines. The lyrics are unique yet feel familiar in their themes of longing and love. Everything about Rocky Bo’s demo shows an intriguing blend of the old and the new, the familiar and the exciting. It represents a new era of genre-bending blues and folk music, and is not to be missed.
