North Philly’s Brielle performs at the final edition of The Key’s Fireside Sessions at Winterfest tonight. The North Philly singer-songwriter just recorded a Key Studio Session with a full band, giving full-treatment to songs from her recent effort The Rough Break-Up. A horn section, keys and jazzy arrangements give the R&B / hip hop songs a feeling of sonic exploration while her lyrics are emotionally exploratory. Listen to “Wait, Stop. GO!” below and get more information about the free show with Paper Hearts here.
Illinois headline Johnny Brenda’s tonight in support of their new record Shine. We were hearing snippets of the LP throughout 2014, including “Queen Flea” and “Things Are Gonna Be Ok,” which gave every indication that the Bucks County band’s first record in four years would be a good one. Check out “Things Are Gonna Be Ok” below and pick up tickets to the 21+ record release show with Satellite Hearts and Electric City here.
Brazilian ensemble PhillyBloco take over the Ardmore Music Hall tonight for its annual Carnaval celebration. If you haven’t experienced the overwhelming energy and fun of a PhillyBloco performance, check out The Key’s review of the local 20+ piece band’s show at World Cafe Live from last summer. They play traditional Brazilian tunes along with covers of Paul Simon and Galactic while weaving in reggae and intense drum-line rhythms. Pick up tickets here and watch a promo video below.
