Kicking off tonight and running through this weekend, PhilaMOCA will be hosting Philadelphia’s first ever Video Music Festival and it’s sure to be killer. With a four-day lineup of special events, showcases, presentations and dance parties, this weekend is going to be chock full of creative fun. Out of all the many to choose from, The Key selected four events that you don’t want to miss this weekend.

1. Philadelphia Music Video Showcase – Thursday, Feb. 26, 7:30 p.m.

The first day kicks off with a music video showcase of local Philadelphia artists, all hand-picked by judges  Robert Drake of WXPN,  Emily Guendelsberger of City Paper, Q.D. Tran of The Deli and John Vettese of The Key. With a wide array of submissions, the showcase is sure to feature cool, fresh content from Philly’s own musical talent and will feature commentary from the judges on what made their picks winners.

2. The History of Music Video, Part One: From the Dawn of Time Until 1993 – Friday, Feb. 27th, 7:30 p.m.

Friday night seems as great a time as ever to brush up on your music video history, so be sure to stop by for this multimedia presentation by music video historian and expert Stephan Pitalo, who will reflect on his impressive collection of interviews, dive into the pioneering of the music video and explain exactly how it came to be.

3. They Might Be Weird: A Burlesque Tribute to Weird Al and They Might Be Giants – Saturday, February 28th, 10:00 p.m.

Saturday night will kick off with lively shenanigans with a burlesque tribute to Weird Al and They Might Be Giants from the talented Broad Street Burlesque, featuring performers from both Philadelphia and New York. Infusing their performances with the music video work of both Weird Al Yankovic and They Might Be Giants, this event is sure to be full of bizarre and unforgettable fun.

4. Backwards Walk Into the Future: A Tribute to MTV’s 120 Minutes – Sunday, Mar. 1st, 7:30 p.m.

Philadelphia’s Chris Cummins will host a presentation honoring the popular MTV segment 120 minutes and it’s contribution to the alternative music scene. Featuring special guests, a guessing video contest, a detailed history and throwback clips, it will bring on waves of nostalgia for those who tuned in back in the day.
