Girlpool relocated to Philly from LA in January, and lured us in with a slew of shows and now have a debut EP, just announced this week. Before the World Was Big comes out June 2 via Wichita Recordings.

Guitarist Cleo Tucker and bassist Harmony Tividad recorded the LP in Philly with Kyle Gilbride of The Goodbye Party and Swearin,’ who was also the engineer behind Waxahatchee’s Cerulean Salt.

This week, the duo presented us with the opening track of the LP,  “Ideal World,” a raw recording that encompasses their deliciously rebellious sound. Hearing them sing “Put me on a food stamp and a Hallmark card / Tranquilize me with your ideal world,” we’re anxious to hear what else they have to say.

Before the World Was Big is available for preorder on iTunes here and limited edition pale yellow vinyl here. Listen to “Ideal World” below and catch them at Union Transfer with Waxahatchee and The Goodbye Party on April 8; tickets and information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
