Sufjan Stevens has shared a second song, “Should Have Known Better,” from his forthcoming album, Carrie And Lowell, out on March 31st.

Stevens is touring this Spring and Summer and starts his tour with two shows in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music on April 9th and 10th. The 10th is sold out, however tickets are still available for the first show on Thursday, April 9th. There’s an extensive interview with Stevens about the new album at Pitchfork here about his new album, named after his stepfather and mother.

“Should Have Known Better,” is classic, acoustic, melancholy Stevens, with a simple, sad, yet hypnotic melody. With poignant references to his childhood, Stevens sings: “I should have known better/Nothing can be changed/The past is still the past/The bridge to nowhere/I should have wrote a letter/explaining what I feel/an empty feeling.” Throughout the song you feel him working through the pain of losing his mother, reconciling memory and the power of emotion.

Below, listen to “Should Have Known Better.” It’s a stunner.
