Prolific Belgian hip-hop / electronic artist Stromae will return to Philadelphia in September following a stunning debut at The Trocadero last fall; he’ll headline the Electric Factory on September 17th.

Getting his start in 2009 while working for the Brussels radio station NRJ, Stromae (offstage name: Paul Van Haver) broke out in Europe with his 2010 his “Alors On Danse.” His music brings together upbeat rhythms with narrative-based lyrics that often target controversial subjects – like gender stereotypes in 2013’s “Tous Les Memes” – something you don’t encounter often in the dance music realm.

His most recent single – “Papaoutai,” from 2013’s Racine Carrée – is about his father who was killed during the 1994 Tutsi genocide. The music video for the song is an incredible combination of a symbolic, frozen-in-time father and intricate dance moves. Stromae’s Sept. 17 Electric Factory show goes go on sale this Saturday at noon; more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
