We just got our hands on “Gates of Dawn,” a fantastic new track from Heartless Bastards‘ upcoming album, Restless Ones. With a mix of Erika Wennerstrom’s deep and booming vocals, intricate layered guitar sounds and hard-hitting drum beats, “Gates of Dawn” marks a fresh, powerful sound coming from the four-piece alternative rock group – listen to it below.
The vibrant track opens with, “I have awoken/The spell it has been broken.” It’s like we’re trailblazing with them through these gates, with descriptive and scenic lyricism that can possibly be attributed to the fact that Restless Ones was recorded during a 10-day stay at Sonic Ranch, the largest residential recording complex in the world, housed on 2,300 acres of pecan orchards bordering the Rio Grande and Mexico.
Restless Ones marks the fifth album from the group, their first since 2012’s Arrow. It’s due out June 16 via Partisan Records and the day following the album’s release, they’ll make a stop at Philly’s Theatre of Living Arts.
