Philly rock band Residuels just premiered a Stooges-approved version of “I Got A Right” today via Noisey; the cover is part of the new single for Valley of Fire, a song the band teased last month ahead of its SXSW run.

Iggy Pop himself says of the cover (and of frontman Justin Pittney):  “I noticed [Justin] had a great feel for our music… a good example of someone who is solving the puzzle of how to have fun and more as a young musician today.  He sent me ‘I Got A Right’ by The Residuels the other day and I thought it had a really good spirit.  Hey Residuels thanks for the cover.”

“I Got A Right” saw help from Uniform Recording’s Jeff Zeigler, who co-produced the track while in the studio while working on the group’s debut LP as a full band (which is still in production).

As for the dirty, freewheelin’ rock n’ roll in “Valley of Fire,” Pittney says his motivation came from waiting out his early teens in Las Vegas, where he’d go get lost the desert and play punk shows. “We’d get a generator, head out to the desert and go ape shit. The Valley of Fire is this amazing place North of the city that I always make the journey to — it’s like a spiritual home for me.”

Listen to “Valley of Fire” and “I Got A Right” below, and watch for the Residuels upcoming dates as they support The Sonics and Buzzcocks through Philly, New York and Baltimore. Don’t worry: While the official release isn’t until April 20th, the tapes (or “cassingles” as Pittney’s calling them) will be available for purchase at the band’s April 12th show at The Theater of Living Arts with The Sonics. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
