What was the Philly music scene like in the 80s? Well, it was quite spectacular. if you don’t believe me, then ask someone who was in the middle of it, not only as a fan but also as a DJ on XPN when he first took the airwaves (with me) in the mid-80s. That person would be Robert Drake, whose major passion, after all these crazy rock and roll years is in for the era of New Wave, punk, and the Rock of the 80s. As the host of XPN’s monthly Land of The Lost, which is on tonight at 7PM, to the regular Sex Dwarf parties he throws around town, he’s got an impressive collection of 80s jams. From the hits and the obscure B-sides, to the 12-inch remixes Drake rocks the nonstop New Wave like nobody’s business. Aside from his always must-listen mix of music, tonight he sheds the light on Philly’s music scene from the 80s.

At 10 p.m. (ET) during his show he’ll break out two long out of print albums that chronicled Philly’s punk and new wave scene during the decade. He’ll be drawing from I’d Rather Be in Philadelphia (1983) and You’re Soaking In It: Music from Philadelphia & NY (1988) with music from some of the decade’s greats: Pretty Poison, Executive Slacks, Bunnydrums, Stickmen, and many more. We’ve got a taste of some of those (now) classics for you to listen to below.
