Sheer Mag, as pictured on the sleeve of their debut 7″

South Philly five-piece Sheer Mag has released a new 7″ (a followup to their debut released in Sept. 2014), and it’s full of rock/punk/pop anthems that are equally as heavy as they are catchy.

They’ve also accompanied the opening track, “Fan the Flames,” with a music video that confirms something we already found out at SXSW: this group can have a damn good time. They address realtor/housing/neighborhood issues in the lyrics for the track, like true South Philadelphians.

Lead singer Tina Halladay’s righteously rough vocals are comparable to the booming sound of Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard. When she opens “Button Up” with the lyric “When you see something that makes you sick / Do you button up or do you bleed?” her voice is hypnotizing, even when she’s basically wailing.

You can listen to the 7″ – which, by the way, just got an 8.1 from Pitchfork – via Bandcamp below. If you felt FOMO just from watching all the sweaty fun this group is having in the new music video, catch them opening for Ex Hex at Union Transfer on Sunday, April 26.
