Folkadelphia Session: Steelism

Steelism‘s debut album 615 to Fame and by extension our Folkadelphia in-studio session with them features some of the most catchy, hook-laden, “sing-a-longable” songs I’ve heard in quite a while. Here’s the thing – the band has no vocals. That’s right, no one is singing at all. It’s completely instrumental, heavy on the steel string and slide guitars. This fact is a testament to the awesomeness, adeptness, and imagination of the Steelism’s Spencer Cullum and Jeremy Fetzer.

Yeah, so you must know that these melodies are glorious. Much like a song I can’t get out of my head, I often find myself humming these riffs. To me, that’s quite an accomplishment, particularly without the use of lyrics and singing. Besides humming along to Steelism, you can also find me dancing. Each song hits the groove and stays locked in. What a trip these guys make for the listener. Each song plays out like the soundtrack to an unmade movie – Westerns, Car Chases, B-movie Horror, Sci-Fi, Surf Rom-Coms, intense Drama – there’s something for every imaginary film. And, in the case of our Folkadelphia Session, we get a real movie soundtrack, a cover of Nino Rota’s classic Love Theme from the Godfather.
