Philly via LA sensation, Girlpool, surprised fans last Friday at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen.

The surprise? Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad were backed by a drummer, the duo’s first time ever having a drum accompaniment for a live performance.

Drummer Ashley Arnwine (of Waxahatchee / Pinkwash) completely rocked alongside Tucker and Tividad for “Crowded Stranger.” Waxahatchee and Girlpool have been on tour together since their Philly stop at Union Transfer on April 8.

You can watch the performance (and the duo break out into a laughing fit during “Cherry Picking”) in the video below, thanks to YouTube user Danny Resner.

Girlpool’s debut LP, Before the World Was Big, is set for release on June 2 via Wichita Recordings.
