MusicNotes from the XPN Morning Show: Grateful Dead archivist creates massive 80 disc boxed set, Tom Petty finally finishes 1994’s “Wildflowers” album, & Watch Pixies perform new song “Um Chagga Lagga”


The Grateful Dead is offering a gigantic boxed-set in September, produced by the band’s archivist David Lemieux.

The Grateful Dead boxed-set: “30 Trips Around The Sun” includes 80 discs containing an unreleased live show for each year of the band’s 30-year run. It also comes on a USB drive. A four-CD sampler will also be available. The boxed set sells for just under $700 and will come out September 18th. It was compiled by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux.   Read Rolling Stone’s story here.

Tom Petty is planning to finish what he started with his 1994 “Wildflowers” album. Petty intended to make “Wildflowers” (his 2nd album) a double album. He will release “Wildflowers — All The Rest” later this year. It is comprised of songs written and recorded in the early 1990s. The first single, “Somewhere Under Heaven,” can be heard over the end credits of the “Entourage” movie, in theaters today.

The Pixies are said to be working on some new material, and have been performing some new tunes. Watch the Pixies perform their new song “Um Chagga Lagga” below @ Rolling Stone studios.

The Pixies recently revealed that they’re working on new music. They debuted “Um Chagga Lagga” during a live show at New York’s Beacon Theatre on May 26th. Watch below.
