UPDATE: Sturgill Simpson’s 9/18 Philly show moved to The TLA

UPDATE: This concert has been moved from the Tower Theater to the TLA on South Street, same date and time. Here’s the message from Simpson’s Facebook page.

Philadelphia fans, we are moving the Sturgill Simpson show on Friday September 18 back downtown to the Theatre of the Living Arts, where it belongs. Showtimes will remain the same. All tickets purchased for the Tower Theatre will be honored at TLA or we will be happy to refund your tickets.

Singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson is coming back to town. He plays the Tower Theatre on Friday, September 18th. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 19th at 10 a.m. Simpson has been touring non-stop since he released Metamodern Sounds In Country Music last May. Writing about the album when it came out for NPR Music, Jacob Ganz said:

Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is absolutely country, from the roadhouse-ready “Life of Sin” to the lonesome-skyline blues of “Voices” to the revival-tent call-and-response stomp of “A Little Light.” The two covers on the album are of Buford Abner’s “Long White Line” (which appeared on both Charlie Moore & Bill Napier’s Truckin’ Favorites and Aaron Tippin’s In Overdrive) and When in Rome’s 1988 hit “The Promise,” which appeared in the closing credits to Napoleon Dynamite. Both would sound at home at the Ryman.

Nothing on Metamodern sounds forced; Simpson has perfected the trick of distilling classic country from many eras and moving away from it at the same time.
