The Mike and Ruthy Band are a pair dedicated to honoring the heart of folk and Americana. They met as struggling artists in New York City after graduating college and have been creating music ever since, first in The Mammals and currently in their own project.. Their latest full-length release, Bright As You Can, features songs centered on their family- and community-centric mission, and the single “What Are We Waiting For” is no exception. The song is an upbeat summery “anthem,” as Ruthy puts it, perfect for jamming whilst on the open road.

Here we have the accompanying video for “What Are We Waiting For”, created by Veronica Fannin. The artist said of the process:

When I listened to ‘What Are We Waiting For,’ I had visions of: landscapes whizzing by a car window; of maps with playful routes appearing as lines. I was thinking about ways to tell a visual story and I remembered a video I saw of a woman who “painted” a transitional story to music with sand on a glass table; where the material itself allowed her to sort of erase and manipulate it to put layers on top of one another to change “scenes.”

The result is a beautiful, wandering lyric video that showcases the simplicity of the song’s message. Watch below, and be sure to catch the pair when they perform this Sunday at Bourbon and Branch.
